Take this with a grain of salt, I'm under a heavy influence of some red wine as I type this (Malbec to be exact). I got lazy and never came around to finishing my best of 2012 mix so I'm just going to post my most played tracks, which became a staple in 2012. These are basically the types of songs you'll hear me play on a regular basis.

I'm bored and I realized I haven't updated in a while, so here's a playlist for you. These are my most played songs of the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day). I didn't count anything from my Summer Mix at the top of the page, to save space. I usually play a wide variety of stuff, but these were my staple go-to songs if you want to get a feel for one of my typical setlists. Most of these tracks were previously featured on Climb To Clouds.

 

 

#10. Martin Solveig - The Night Out (Maison & Dragen Remix)

I love this track. The Madeon remix is also good but this one is more my style. It fits well with Tiesto's remix of Somebody I Used to Know (which narrowly missed the top 10). It's high energy enough to keep you moving, but it's usually a track I'll play earlier in my set.

I've loved this track since Climb to Clouds episode #2 when it came out. It's such a 2012 banger. Even though it has lost some steam coming into the summer, it was still firmly on my playlist and is met with great reception from the crowd.

 

#8. Sebastian Ingrosso, Alesso ft Ryan Tedder - Calling (Lose My Mind)

This was a huge hit last year, and the vocal version is still huge this year. OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder lent his voice to powerhouse producer Alesso and one third of Swedish House Mafia's Ingrosso to really fill out the track. I've never seen a bunch of Jersey guidos fist pump harder than when I drop this track.

 

#7. Tiesto & Wolfgang Gartner ft Luciana - We Own The Night

The lead line is almost too corny to make the list, but Tiesto and Wolfgang drop some synths that blow the track out of the water. I heard Gartner play this live a week ago and the crowd on the beach erupted. It even gets the non-dancers grooving to the beat.

 

#6. David Guetta ft Sia - Titanium (Alesso Remix)

I've been playing Titanium remixes for almost a year now, but this one is by far my favorite. I was happy to see the mainstream break of Titanium in the early summer so I abused the shit out of this track and everyone loves it. Not a PERSONAL favorite of mine because it's been out for so long, but this track gets played just about every time I'm out (even at a country music festival).

 

#5. Rihanna - Where Have You Been (Hardwell Remix)

I absolutely love this track. There were a few months where I couldnt get enough of it. I had this remix before I heard the original track and was quick to play it for New Music Tuesday. I believe as a DJ you should play remixes that are close enough to the original but have an extra clubby twist to them. When people hear live music they want something special, and this edit doesn't disappoint. 

 

#4. Coldplay vs Swedish House Mafia - Paradise Antidote (First State Bashup)

This mashup has been around for a while, but I always find myself running back to it, especially this summer. Both songs are great, and this track gives you the best of both worlds without losing any energy. It's a must for any festival or heavy house crowd.

 

#3. Zedd ft Matthew Koma - Spectrum (Original Mix)

Sorry Armin, but I like the original the best. This was an instant summer hit when I first heard it and continues to be cemented on my weekly playlist. I heard Toro play it on one of his mixes about a month ago and knew it was going to be a solid track for the summer. Always a crowd pleaser.

 

#2. M83 - Midnight City (Eric Prydz Private Remix)

This track is such a bomb. It's very situational because you can possibly lose your crowd if they have a short attention span. Pryda's attention to detail on this track and his dual-drop makes this track very intense! You'll be sure to get the main riff stuck in your head and end up having to download this track for your "private" enjoyment. One of my favorite tracks of the year, period.

Not to be confused with #3, but I am currently in so much love with this song. It came out something like halfway through the summer but my ears have been glued to it ever since. It's Flo's second house remix summer banger and it really explodes with energy when she belts out the title lyrics. You just have to love this track, I haven't failed with it once yet. It's currently #2 on the beatport top 100, but my #1 pick of the entire summer. LOVE THIS SONG!

 

If anyone was wondering where this week's podcast was, it's over at the host site www.climbtoclouds.com. I'm going to keep jackstalk.com as more of a personal info site to share my thoughts on the world and everything that's been going on. It's just like I did 9 years ago back in 2003 when I started blogging (don't believe me? All the original unmodified entries are in the Archives section from when I was 16), I'll still update the podcast every week but it won't be reposted here.

 

I started a new idea called Unplug Weekends. Its something that 99% of you probably won't be able to do since it's the weekend. DJing 4-5 nights a week and working at my day job is really taxing on my free time and I'm never able to finish any of my new material. I can barely get the podcast done by Tuesday night sometimes. I've decided to shut off my phone and cut off my internet every weekend from Friday night til Monday morning. This past weekend was the first week and I was able to produce the 2012 Summer mix at the top of the page. I think it was really successful, so I'm going to try it every week. I'll have 48 hours a week to really dig in and start knocking out some insane stuff. I'm basically forcing myself to finish the ton of projects I've started. Try it sometime, do you think you can shut of your phone and unplug from facebook/twitter for a whole weekend?

 

So tomorrow I'll be heading down to Ocean City, Maryland. I could really use some more chillout time after a busy past two weeks. I'll be completely unplugged and just out to have some fun with John and Tom until Sunday. Hopefully the Subaru makes the 5hr trip! I'll try to keep this as updated as possible, but you can always count on the Climb to Clouds trance podcast every Tuesday! Out.
